MG MGF Technical - Wipers run slow nearly stop

Pooring with rain,turn on windscreen wipers and it took quite a time to cover the distance of my windscreen.Was working then just stopped.
If i watered the screen they speed up butthen go slow again.
Any ideas what is causing this

Maybe stalk switch issue or more likely the motor housing is/has been flooded, causing corrosion of the contacts. It may recover with disassembly and cleaning - depending on your job/hobbies this ranges from 'easy' to 'what on earth are you talking about?'
