Richard,

You do know that it's the screen that adds rigidity to the windscreen surround that in turn allows it to be used as a roll hoop. It therefore has to be bonded into place and I'm not sure if this is a job that you can do yourself. Most insurance companies will replace the windscreen for around £50 and it will not affect your no claims bonus. If they will cover it why go to all the trouble of fitting it yourself?
David Clelland

At a rough guess I'd say 10kg.

Bonding the new one in is the easy bit, getting the old one out is where the professional windscreen fitters earn their bread. There's a cheese-wire type tool that will do it, but it's hard work. As David says, do you not have 'breakage of glass' cover on your policy? The excess may be £80 rather than £50, but it'll still be the smart route IMHO.

no probs used to work for ford main dealer been on all the courses on direct glazing so doing it myself is no problem will only cost me £10 for sealer and will give me a chance to colour code the windscreen surround at the sane time as it has a few chips in it thanks richard
