MG MGF Technical - water on top of spark plugs ->misfire

A couple of months ago I reported my car ('99 VVC)misfiring under load which was cured by changing the plugs. At the time there was what I took to be oil on the top of plugs 2 & 3 (ie the middle two), as in around plug lead (not in the combustion chamber). After a brief panic I summised that this was spilt oil finding the lowest point on the outside of the block.

Well, the misfire returned (present at low revs once the water temp rises) recently. On removing the plugs I found that once again the middle 2 plugs were damp, though it appeared more like dirty water than oil. I have cleaned and replaced them, and smeared silicon grease around the plug insulation/base of the plug leads. Misfire has gone away again.

However, where is the liquid coming from, and should I worry? Does HGF ever occur in such a way as to leak oil or water into the 'plug holes'?

No noticeable coolant or oil loss, or contamination of one with the other.

I will, obviously, monitor the situation.

HGF begins with coolant under the vehicle or minor temp increases. As far as I can tell a F about to spit the dummy (Aus for HGF) runs well right up until the moment of disaster, no misfires. Water around the plugs is most likely condensation. If you have oil around the plugs I would proceed to the bank and discuss your financial position.
