MG MGF Technical - VVC Working or Not?
Hi All. This may seem a daft question but how do I know if the VVC on my car is working? I know it should cut in about 4200 RPM should I feel an increase in power? Thanks Andy

Andy, you should feel a constant surge of power through the rev range. The VVC is slightly more willing than a std non VVC engine, but unless you compare the two side by side, you may never tell. I've had quite a few VVC and non VVC engined MG Fs and TFs into the workshop, it's not uncommon to find the timing out a tooth on the drive belt....!!!!! Worth checking if you are unsure of performance. Ohhh, the other thing I'm finding makes a huge differance to the smoothness of the engine is the uprated ladder under the main bearings that the head bolts screw into. Mark.

Hi Thanks for that, the car drives just as you say,I've not driven it since November been used to driving a diesel with lots of torque need to remember that this engine needs to rev a bit!!

Andy, Had the same situation myself, as daily diesel driver used to rarely exceeding 2k on the rev counter, I found it hard to open her up initially. When I got my head around it and pushed her past 4k, it was a revelation! By the time I hit 6.5k and she's still pulling hard, I was grinning from ear to ear. Suits the wife too, as she keeps it below 3k and thinks its quite docile. Recent MOT meant more max revs driving to get the CAT hot and more grins. Chris.
