MG MGF Technical - TF Battery Removal
When I put my '97 F away each winter I remove the battery from the car and recharge it each month.Come Spring I simply re-install the battery and start up.Daughter has just brought her '03 TF round for winter storage.Question is,is it possible simply to remove the battery on a TF just the same as an F that won't cause any problems with immobiliser/electronics/central locking or anything else when it comes time to re-install the battery? We do not have the immobiliser number, hence the concern.

I can't be sure, but I can't see why there would be a problem with what you propose. MG UK at Longbridge will have the build data for your car, and should therefore be able to provide the missing immobiliser code should you need it.

The TF will be the same as the F requiring only the Radio Code however a Float Charger connected (we use a fly connection under the bonnet) will regularly top up the battery when the voltage drops maintaining the battery in good condition without removing it. We use a Coulombi Xs3600 on the F plus a normal Sealey Charger with a Float Charge Facility for a spare battery for any of the cars. Geoff F.

I'm with Geoff on this one. Last winter and this winter my car has been SORN'd and I use an Accumate conditioner to keep the battery in tip top condition. No need to take the battery out of the car either.

Thanks. It's all a bit academic at the moment as the car isn't going anywhere. The clutch slave cylinder has just packed up so no clutch; its parked on gravel,it's freezing and the nearest garage is 20 miles away.
