MG MGF Technical - Ride height query

Hi,
quick quiz.
Have a 2002 MG TF. 15" wheels looked lost in the arches so I fitted 16" square spokes with 40 profile tyres. The arches look fuller but the trouble is the ride height is still way up there.
The rear arches sit approx 6.5cm above the tyres with little difference at the front.
Q: is this normal?? If not, what is?
Second part of quiz is that I have been offered some trophy springs & dampers which I am told will drop the standard ride height by around 10mm. If so, what will be the result....will I be looking at a 5.5cm gap or a lot less?
Additionally, the suspension seems a lot more jittery than the '97 MGF I had before. Whilst I appreciate that hydragas will soften over time and settle, the TF feels hyper by comparison.
All thoughts and gospel appreciated.
Cheers

The TF was roundly criticised for its harsh ride, so much so that MG Rover finally got around to changing the dampers and improving things in 2005 just before the company folded. You can buy a damper kit to improve the ride, but it is pretty pricey.

As Mike says, the TF is (in my mind) a harder ride. The Trophy springs will also be harsher.

The F suspension units don't get softer with age, if anything the Nitrogen diaphragm fails and the 'spring' goes out of the suspension...
