MG MGF Technical - radio/cassette won't fit now

Just spent a number of days removing a lot of interior trim so I could fit the behind-dash X-brace, only to find that the original 1196 model radio is now just too long to fit back in - the X-brace gets in the way 8-(
I can only assume that the radio/CD unit in the TF must be shorter. Any experience of this problem out there?
