MG MGF Technical - non starter
Have just fitted new crank sensor, still not starting,we pushed her and got her running but very rough and stinking of fuel, would not pick up, on acceleration and eventually dies.Does anybody know of fuel or air problems on these cars as i have now run out of ideas.

Sounds like blocked injector(s) to me. There's a useful check list about non-starting and more about fuel delivery issues at http://www.aa1car.com/library/2003/us60324.htm HTH Jeff

Thanks for the link Jeff, regretably i know little about the injection system. However when we did bump start her,she really did stink of petrol,i assumed that this was either down to too much fuel and not enough air

Can you identify where the fuel smell is coming from? If the exhaust, chances are the ignition is the root of the problem, if it's coming from the injection system there may be a leak in a fuel line or union. Your suspicion the timing may be out (in other post) sounds feasible although having replaced almost all the ignition components, two possible causes are the ECU to coil trigger either being flakey or mis-timed, or the rotor arm having come loose and shifted position - fairly easy to rule that out. Whilst you're there, fit a new one, ideally OE or equivalent quality. Perhaps worth putting a tester on the low tension side of the coil while cranking the engine, to see if there's a consistent flicker - not a definitive test but it should be enough to prove/disprove. In my experience, assume ignition to be the cause until you can verify it's 100%, and only then suspect the fuel system.
