coolant temperature sensor either brocken, or bad connections. Almost... beside of other options

Thanks Dieter I will take a look when its drier. Today it took ages to start, just turning over, but has since run fine, also the temp gauge works fine. Is this seperate from the engine management sensor??

The dashboard gauge is fed from a separate sensor, the blue or black one a couple of centimetres from the brown ECU coolant sensor. Which you probably discovered for yourself ;o) Both sensors suffer from age-related connection problems, so well worth cleaning up both sets of connectors while you're at it. Electrical contact spray (from Maplin etc) is well worth adding to your toolkit.

Thanks Bandit. I've found the two sensors, they both looked fine as did the wiring. So i removed the dizzy cap and found that was well worn.So a new cap/rotor later all seems well.
