MG MGF Technical - MGF Wiper Switch
The wiper switch on my 2000 MGF has started to play up. After turning the wipers on, nothing happens for around 20-30 seconds and then they work OK. It's the same for both single speed and fast speed. However, the 'flick' wipe works OK without a pause. Once they are working and 'warmed up' the problem disappears. Is this a switch or ECU problem?

Hi, I have exactly the same problem with my 2002 TF. Sorry to say I don't know what the answer is, but it has been suggested to me that it may be the wiper motor at fault. If you do get the problem sorted please do post what was required. ;-)

Hi Paul I'm not so sure about the motor, but you could be right. My local garage thinks it is the switch but I'm now really convinced it's the ECU. The flick mechanism seems to be the only part of the wiring that is a direct link from the switch to the motor and this works OK. It's funny how the whole problem disappears once the car has been driven for a while, which may be after the ECU has ' warmed up'? If I sort it, I'll let you know.

Have you tried the cheapo miracle cure of spraying the ECU connectors with electrical contact cleaner spray and examining immediately adjacent sections of loom?
