MG MGF Technical - MGF sticking plastic throttle body
| Have just finally come across an easy, cheap fix for the all too common sticking throttle body, whereby the revs don't return back to idle. Assuming that alls well with the idle control valve and TPS, gaskets etc etc, simply by adding an extra torsional spring from the TB cam to the clip (holding pipe)just above gives that extra bit of closure on the butterfly which is all that is needed at times. Whilst the extra spring is virtually un-noticeable on the accelerator pedal that extra little bit has cured my annoying errattic idle return problem. Whilst i can't guarantee it will fix anyone else's problems it is at least a cheap option worth considering. Steve M |

| I had this problem. Your extra spring with its extra shaft and bearing wear is not needed. I discovered that the butterfly was quite stiff and squeaking when worked by hand. I removed the rubber boot on the inlet side of the plastic throttle body. Wiped out all the muck up to and around the butterfly. Then silicon sprayed what appear to be rubber seals on the butterfly shaft and flush with the bore of the throttle body. Replace the rubber boot with the gentlest tightening of the hose clip. The shaft was almost immediately freed and the tickover was perfect once more. Its been perfect for what must be 6 or 7 years and over 20k miles now! Pete |
