MG MGF Technical - mgf engine cuts out or dies

The engine in my wifes just cuts out at random times , usually cuts back in again . This is sometimes severe and is like slamming the brakes on other times is like a hiccup. It cut outon me the other on a hill. Irestarted and really hammered the engine for a few mile which got the oil temp gauge up off 60C where it doesn't seenm to want to movefrom . could it be the oil temp sensor that is b*ggering up the ECU ?

I apologise for the terrible tripewriting skills above ! But the car is a pig to drive at the moment. The diagnostics plug in kit does not register any faults.

Pretty sure the ECU doesn't use an oil temperature input, only coolant temperature. The oil temp gauges vary in accuracy & responsiveness, perhaps worth trying a different gauge - normal running should be showing 90 to 110 degrees.

First job I'd do is take every electrical connector apart
& sluice with electrical contact spray. Something that just happens occasionally is quite likely to be a bad connection somewhere.
