MG MGF Technical - MGF cambelt kit
| Hi, Usual million dollar question. Cambelt was changed 5 years ago during annual service. It's due again - but the car has only done 20k since last change. Should I bother having it done so soon ? (Is it every 5 years for a MGF ?) |

| Yes! It changed to 4 years on later TFs for no appreciably good reason. The belts deteriorate with age so you should get it done. On the other hand, they MIGHT be fine for years - you pay your money, you take your choice... If it goes you're looking at a new engine. If you shop around you can get the belts done for a couple of hundred quid, which I think is worth it for peace of mind. Equally, if the engine has done a very high mileage and you would rather take the risk and buy a second hand engine if the belts go you might consider that a sounder use of funds! Cheers, Tim |
