MG MGF Technical - MGF 1.8 VVC Replacement Exhaust System
It seems that my cat has fallen apart internally and choked up the engine. I'm about to invest in a new system and since I'm not about to part company with my wee car for a long time I thought it were time to treat it to an exhaust makeover in stainless and sporty...but I fear I've fallen into a minefield of choices and what to do. Help..!!! Can anyone advise on the best to get and what parts I need. Many many thanks, Johnny.

It's a matter of personal choice but I've gone for the Mike Satur Daytona stainless back box - Not the cheapest but excellent quality and a superb exhaust tone (£255 plus vat). You buy the tail pipes separately and get a choice of round, oval or quad pipes (which means you could change the look if you fancy a change of style in the future - I have quad at present) £50 for round or oval, £75 for quad. I bought the cat saver nuts from him at the same time which protect the bolt threads from the weather (plus a cat fixing kit which includes bolts and gaskets). You may also need the exhaust link pipe (if your car is pre 1999) £30. Eventually, I want to buy the 4-2-1 manifold and sports cat at some point but for the moment I bought a new cheap cat from ebay (about £39.00). Fitting is easy DIY, once you get the old exhaust off (easier said than done as the nuts are usually VERY rusted). I managed to get the three nuts loose which connect the cat to the front pipe, rather than those on the other side which were fused to the studs). Plenty of WD40 or plusgas repeatedly for a few days prior to tackling the job and a long breaker bar was the secret to releasing the nuts. Then again, if you are replacing the cat, you could simply grind off the nuts.

Thanks Mark. Appreciate your advice. Sorry for the delay wasn't in good wireless location. Johnny
