MG MGF Technical - MFG Trophy 160 se cam belts
Hi, I enquired about replacing the cam belts at my local garage and they beleive they can not do it as they require a special tool to reset the timing on re-asembly. I've been looking through the forums and in the manual and I can't find any reference to the trophy being any different to change the belts than the standard VVC. Is the trophy different from the standard VVC and are special tools required to reset the timing? I personaly beleive they are refering to the actual variable cam timings which should't be efected if not dismantled.

They are confused, you just need a regular cam locking tool to prevent the cam sprockets from turning, but even this is optional since the job is possible without it. My guess is that they dont want to do it. Dave

If they reckon that they need a tool that they do not have then they have probably not done the job before. Suggest that you find another garage. http://www.mgfregister.org/forum Geoff F.
