MG MGF Technical - Map Pocket in place of Glove Box?

The glove box is not much use - in fact I've taken mine out whilst inspecting access to the resistor pack (fan problems). I have not replaced it yet and have to say it is not missed!

Is it worth replacing the g/box with an open throated slim box? Such a box would serve as a decent map pocket or holding place for various guides and reference material whilst touring. Has anyone else done this?

I can see there may be some risk during a severe front end shunt, maybe forcing the box onto/into the passenger's legs. Clearly construction would best be of brittle material that shatters or crumples on impact. Ideas anyone?
