MG MGF Technical - Lumpy when cold
| My TF160 is misbehaving when cold. It starts fine, pulls away okay then is spluttery until warm. The engine doesn't actually stall but it feels like it is going to. No power, then it 'comes back' No problems when warm. Any ideas? If it was m BGT I'd say not enough choke... I'm wondering if it is one of the temperature sensors but I'd like ideas as to which one and how to check they are working. ENgine warms up fine, gauge stable. THanks, Neil |

| Possible the ECU isn't getting a consistent input from the coolant temperature sensor. Try pulling off the connector and see if there's a change in behaviour. It's the brown sensor, on a casting on the end of the cylinder head. The dashboard gauge is fed by the blue/black sensor next to it, so gauge behaviour doesn't necessarily confirm the ECU is getting a good input. If with the sensor disconnected the engine runs better but idles high when warm, the sensor has developed a fault. Worth trying a good clean up of the connections with electrical contact spray before condemning the sensor, but they are a common failure. |
