MG MGF Technical - Is it a helicoil??

Hi just changing my plugs and leads on a 98 1.8 vvc.
The one thing I noticed as I removed spark plug number 2 there was no washer on it. Believing it had fallen off with a torch and a long screw driver I started trying to pull what I thought was the washer up the spark plug recess.
It soon become apparent that the washer was attached to the thread.It would move a little say 1mm but that would be that.
So my question is do I remove the washer from the new spark plug or just put it in as is.
