MG MGF Technical - instrument panel light failure
how do i locate or change the light
c bagshaw
Remove the two screws on the cowl just above the speedos on the cowl itself (May need to get your head near the drivers seat and look upwards) and the two at the bottom of the cowl (towards the fuse box cover and either side of the steering column towards the edges of the cowl) - lift out and tilt to the left so it hangs/sits over the centre column. Access to the bulbs is right in front of you in two seperate twistlock fittings above the clocks. Before you do this, make sure that the instrument light dimmer has not been turned down by accident! Good luck.

Nice one Sam, that worked for me. Whilst the O/P is getting his instrument lights sorted, are all the switches producing a backlight and illuminating another light when activated? If not, you can remove the offending switch unit - at it's rear you'll see a tiny pea bulb in a yellow or green plastic carrier. See the thin wires in the carrier and (gently) scrape them with a flat blade to remove the oxide layer that stops them working! With care, the switch panel can be popped out with judiscious levering or be pushed out from behind if one of the footwell panels is removed first. These have securing screws and house the footwell bulbs (both I've mine were u/s). And whilst I'm being a light bore, the lamp in the bonnet wouldn't work until I brightened up the bonnet switch connectors (near the drivers side hinge). When fiddling with electrics, there's a chance you'll ground something and regret it. Best to disconnect the +ve on the battery first. Jeff
