Temp dial is controlled by the blue coloured sensor they are about 30£ to replace, the door locks could be just a loose connection or a dry joint

Hi Jane and Dan,

Welcome to the website! Regarding the temperature dial - this is a mechanical rotary control of a simple valve in the hot water circuit.
If it is no longer working, there may be a couple of reasons for this. It may be that the control wire has become detached either from the dial's cam or from the valve end of the mechanism. The second problem is that the teeth on the pinion on the rotary controller or the rack on the cam have stripped off.

Unfortunately, to investigate further will require some stripping down of the interior...

I guess another problem (you don't say whether the heater always blows hot or cold) is an air-lock in the coolant circuit. This can prevent coolant flow to the heater matrix - and the heater will simply blow out cold air. This demands some urgent investigation to ensure that the coolant system is in good condition, and at a minimum will necessitate the system being flushed to clear out the air...

The second problem you mention, the central locking, is interesting. As I presume the car starts as normal, it suggests that the fob transponder is working as it should, because the immobiliser is being deactivated automatically (as it should on an '02 car). This make understanding the non-operation of the central locking a little harder to understand, but perhaps it may be a problem with signal reception. The immobiliser unit has an aerial wire hidden under the heater controls. If this has become damaged, or perhaps even just fallen down into a recess with no signal, the remote central locking will stop working.I presume that the central locking works correctly if you use the key in the driver's lock?
