MG MGF Technical - Heater controls - 2 down, 2 to go

Hi, I've got an 'S' reg MGF which I bought in November 2007. For the first few months I assumed setting number 1 on the heater control was a bit feeble, but eventually I realised it simply wasn't working. Not to bothered by this though as I had 3 other settings to use..... now setting 2 has also died!
I'm guessing this will be down to some fiddly little electrical component that probably involves the whole engine removing for it to be repaired or replaced. Can any one offer any enlightenment?
Cheers!

Yes and No - it is a simple component (resistor pack) but you don't have to remove the engine!

The relay is mounted above the passenger footwell - it is more difficult if you have air-con as the 'box' gets in the way.

However it is fully documented in the archives and I am sure that Dieter has a web page showing how to do it.

You could also try this much more refined answer which is especially useful if you have the aircon - as you don't even need to access the resistor pack, just the back of the fan switch on the central console. HTH

Apologies - 'engine removal' remark somewhat tongue in cheek...

Ta for both the above. As it'd Friday evening I shall wait until a point when my brain is slightly more receptive and contemplate the options. due to the changes in the climate of late (global warming?) I've actually managed to get the roof down a couple of times already this year so heater on 3 & 4 may just have to stay that way for a bit longer...
