MG MGF Technical - Head Gasket replacement
I am about to buy a 1997 MGF with a blown head gasket, is there any bad problems i should look out for when replacing the head gasket. Has anyone found out the hard way?? Will the head need to be skimmed etc etc, and is it a straight forward, remove and replace gasket job, without any tappet adjusting etc etc I would appreciate any help or advice...Thanks guys and gals

Tappets are hydraulic so self adjusting. Normal practice is to skim the head, ensure you use a MLS gasket. Access is not great and some of the fixings that require removal have high torque settings. You need to be able to lock the engine to prvent rotation whilst the head is off to prevent any of the liners lifting and scrapping the block. You should be able to find more info if you search the web.

Hi Have a look at this link http://www.timguydesign.f2s.com/pics/MG-HG-Replacement.pdf covers it all in good detail,do you know why the gasket failed? best of luck, and please report back when its done.
