MG MGF Technical - Flapping Tonneau Cover
Hi All, Living here in USA I am lucky enough to enjoy at least 9 months top down motoring (spoilt I know). However I am finding that at about +45 mph the tonneau cover comes loose (at the rear) and flaps about, none of the pop studs come lose so there is no danger of losing it. Has anyone experienced this before and come up with a neat fix (strategically placed velcro perhaps) I should state that we have had a brutally hot summer - could the cover have stretched. Mine is a'96 F so the cover is old style - wire tensioner. Many thanks Elona

How do you happen to have an F in Virginia?

Elona Do as most Europeans do - don't fit the cover! Otherwise check out the aftermarket people such as Mike Satur. I bought one from him but it does require the fitting of three "pop" studs to the car, works very well and much easier to fit than the MK 1.

Elona, Are you sure the wire hasn't snapped ? The cover should be quite hard to fit, and requires a bit of pulling, and going back and forth until you eventually get it in place. If you can fit the cover quite easily then its possibly broken inside. If the wire snaps then it won't fit tightly under the rear and will come loose easily. Brian

Dick in Minnesota, My husband is on exchange with teh USN working at The Pentagon, we imported teh F under a NATO Forces Agreement, which allows mutual importing of vehicles for personal use. It does get a fair bit if attention! Regards Elona
