MG MGF Technical - Failed MOT due to emissions

Hi,

Quick question...

Last year, my MGF 1.8i failed the MOT due to emissions. The garage charged me £80 for doing some tests and connecting a small pipe in the exhaust system. I remember them saying the pipe in question was the similar size to that of a WD40 spray pipe attachment, (I know what they mean but can't describe it - the red pipe you get with a can of WD40).

Anyway - any idea what they are refering to as I suspect it may fail once more and I don't want to get stung again.
