MG MGF Technical - Everythings gone wrong!
ive owned my s reg mgf since september 2007. i have had 4 new tyres, a new handbreak, new brakes, radiator and pipes, no2 spark plug had a helicoil and have just been towed home again!! This time the aa have said it is the headgasket although they did not spend anytime looking. The antifreeze (water) is full, the car starts but missfires and dies after about 10 seconds. is it the head gasket??? any suggestions would be very welcome. thanks. claire

Its very difficult to diagnose a problem with a brief description like this, but its more likely to be the coil pack that's at fault. It could also be that the cam belt has slipped around a notch (or was put on incorrectly when the belt was changed).

clouds of white smoke from the exhaust could be HGF - do you have these?

Mayonaise type stuff on dipstick & in coolant resevoir if HGF? No offence to the AA, but they don't know everything about every car. Probably 'assuming' it's HGF as it's an MGF!! RAC bloke mis-diagnosed a flywheel sensor failure on a Rover 420i I had in the late 90s. Point is, recovery services tend to do just that, recover. Modern cars don't really submit themselves to old-fashioned road side repairs. Ignition/ fuel problem???

I also had the RAC tell me I had a HGF when it was actually a split water pipe. Running then dieing could be fuel related. How long ago was it given a proper service?
