MG MGF Technical - Engine seized, what does this mean?
| Hi, I have looked at an MGF that I am told that the engine has seized due to adding far too much oil. Is this correct and what exactly is wrong with the engine. What does it need doing to it to fix it? Brian |

| Over-filling with oil leading to seizure usually means either 1. The crank has 'frothed' the oil, making it impossible for the oil pump to work effectively, thus the bearings siezed due to running dry, or 2. Excess pressure built up which popped an oil seal somewhere, causing the oil to escape & seizure again due to bearings running dry. As a general rule, rebuilding an engine that has seized is a fairly thankless task - an awful lot of work and likely to be more expensive in parts alone than buying a secondhand engine. |
