MG MGF Technical - Do I have to get a new/SH ECU unit

Hi!

I own an MGf 1.8i 2001 model.

On a recent journey home travelling on the M25, the
engine suddenly died on me (very traumatic in the fast lane!). Managed to get over to the hard shoulder
and (having breakdown cover) I was trailered back
home, my car being dropped off at my local MG garage.

My mechanic found that the fuse kept blowing on the
ECU unit, but it took some time to find the fault, that one of the wires had "shorted".

Repair carried out, my car back on the road and going
fine, until today. Went to start it, nothing, just
the battery trying to start the engine.

Obviously I will be back in touch with my garage, but
do I need another ECU unit and if so at what cost and
who would be the most reasonably priced supplier! Is
there a better one on the market?

I recently had the Lambda oxygen censor replaced as
the yellow engine warning light had come on. Light
went off, but is now back on!!!

Any ideas

I read elsewhere recently of a fuse blowing, caused by lambda sensor wire not broken but shorting to the exhaust. On that model it took out the starter solenoid supply so the car would start then drive(bare wire makes contact with exhaust, shorts and blows fuse) then the fuse needs replacing before car starts again. But that fuse could also have been to the engine ECU depending on the model. This sounds like a suspicious coincidence - have a look at the lambda wiring.
