MG MGF Technical - Courtesy light problem
Hi there, I'd like to know if anyone can help with a problem I'm having with the courtesy lights on the MGF we've just acquired. Courtesy lights do not come on, we have two live feeds to each of them. Please help

Just with one door, or both? Sometimes a failing microswitch or dodgy connection to the driver's door lock (where the door open microswitch resides) can give rise to this problem if it affects just one side. I presume that the fuses have all been checked anyway?

Hi Rob, thanks for responding to my query. Should you have two live feeds to each light because ours has? Have checked bulbs on a battery, and have checked the wires - which all four show live. Both sides affected. Do the wires go through a relay? If so, where is the relay? Have also checked fuses - all ok. Once again, thanks for any help. Cheers, John

Hi John - ah - two lives to the bulbs? Odd! One should be earth! Best to check out the wiring diagram - I don't know the age of your car, but assuming that it is a pre-1999/2000 MGF, then Dieter's website has some very useful digrams that should be of use to you - http://mgfcar.de/schedules/sb30.jpg

Hello again Rob, our MGF is a 1997 1.8 VVC. Yes, I agree, very strange to have two lives to lights. I'm printing off wiring diagram and going to check it out. I need to check the whole car as it's new to us in any case. It has the odd quirky fault, but courtesy lights were bugging me. Thanks for the assistance, believe me it's greatly appreciated. Will let you know the outcome. Regards, John
