MG MGF Technical - Coolant Level Warning
Does a coolant level sensor really need a delay device? With the engine hot, the expansion tank is three quarters full and hence even VERY spirited cornering isn't going to uncover the sensor? My thinking is a new expansion tank, an OE sensor then some simple wiring that lights up a warning light such as the engine bay temperature? That would save a bit of wiring, and having aircon and a HRS switch I've no obvious place to put the light anyway! Neil

The OEM MG Rover coolant warning circuit didn't have the delay in it. Mt in-law's ZS120 has this, and the light does come on periodically, and then self-extinguish... no annoying buzzer though. And the light going on and off is a bit like the little boy crying "wolf", so you might ignore it until it was too late... Of course, ensuring that the coolant level was higher would avoid the number of false alarms. One thing to consider though is the possibility of combining a sensor with a DIY delay circuit. IIRC, there is something suitable from Maplins... yup - found the thread: http://forums.mg-rover.org/showthread.php?t=307657 Shouldn't be too difficult to do yourself?

fitted new bottle and sensor and run it through 12v buzzer in behind fusebox cover sometimes buzzes going over speedbumps or potholes does not bother me as i think of it as a diagnostic test lol
