MG MGF Technical - Cambelt Tensioner - Pointer & Spring

Morning All,

Just refitting the cambelt tensioner (auto type) on year 2000 1800 MPi and having trouble keeping the pointer and spring aligned after tensioning Patchlok bolt to 25Nm. (Pages 86 & 87 on 8th Edition workshop manual)

Is there supposed to be a washer or something between the tensioner assembly and the cylinder head to stop these moving? If so I may have lost it into the bottom of the timing belt cover? - Ooops!

Any advice on this would be welcome.

Thanks

No there isnt supposed to be a washer, the flange bolt used has a built in washer platform.

Just hold the tensioner adjuster plate with a long armed allen key and hold it tightly while you torque the pillar bolt.

Check out this Youtube clip which shows how to tension the cam belt auto tensioner and change the cam belt.
Note that engine is on bench, but there are tips that will be helpful anyway.

Thanks Guys,
I figured out that more tension on the bolt held everything together and in position - and then put the thought of a lost washer in the bottom of the cam belt cover out of my mind.

You comments are welcome though - thanks for responding, when the rattle starts from that side of the engine at least I know it must be something else!
