MG MGF Technical - cam belt failure
Good afternoon i have a simple question if somebody could help Do the valves contact the pistons on a 51 plate k engine when the cam belt snaps Your assistance would be appreciated

Yes they do.

Thanks David made my day!The engine has done 146k worth doing the head or change engine ? what do you think?
p wright
Unfortunately the damage will be impact of the valves and the pistons. When the head is removed, you will know if it is an engine out and rebuild or a replacement engine, Engines are readily available from a number of Breakers however an engine cost plus labour to change it may exceed the value of a high mileage car, unless you can do it yourself. It is decision time. The MGF Register Forum http://www.mgfregister.org/forum has a Classified Section where you may find a buyer 'as is' Geoff F.

A number of people - maybe even the majority - have got away with just bent valves. Probably a function of how many revs were going on when it happened and if you managed to get the clutch in quickly.
