MG MGF Technical - Blown 10A Fuse

Dear all,

My MGF has been stored for quite a while, since I moved abroad. Anyhow, everytime I return to Portugal I take it for a spin.

Recently I got 4 consecutive blown fuses over the last 2000km (3 months). The fuse is always the same. A 10A one, under the dash bottom left corner. When it goes I loose the EPAS, the rev Counter and the temp gauge.

Some wire must be shorting somewhere, I guess...

Any known similar faults with your cars?

Thanks!

The EPAS is the biggest consumer of current on that circuit, so I'd suspect that's the most likely cause. Worn electric motors begin lose efficiency, so the current they draw increases, and electric motors that spend a long time inactive will form a kind of rust on the motor brushes which requires additional current to overcome.

Connecting a multimeter that can measure DC current to that circuit and turning the steering from lock to lock while stationary will identify how close to 10A the circuit is in 'normal' conditions, and whether the current flow varies exactly in line with EPAS activity. If so, replacing the 10A fuse with a 15A could solve it.
