MG MGF Technical - B&G Low Coolant Alarm test inquiry
| Dear All owners of a B&G low coolant alarm set. This is a follow up of the thread "HGF oh oh" and is meant to collect facts about the proper functioning of this alarm. As is pointed out in that thread, to two bleeps at engine start only tell that the electrical system works, and not that the float is at proper level!! So, i invite you for your own cars safety to perform a very simple test: - switch ignition on - open the coolant reservoir - use a NON metal stick (wood, plastic) and push down the round float to the bottom of the tank (see picture) - wait about twelve seconds till the alarm starts bleeping and the red alarm light keeps burning - if it does, your kit is OK, if not, you have an issue!!! like me Let us know on this thread if your alarmkit is ok or not ok. I do apologize to those who find above information too much detail. My aim is to get as much information as possible, also from those who are not so familiar with technical stuff. Thanks for cooperation and regards, Huib

| I haven't done this test, but when the level has become low in the past, the alarm just keeps alarming IIRC... |

| Have to agree with Rob. I have one of the first kits and it has saved me twice both times with water pump failure |

| Yup, these kits will easily pay for themselves many times over - most recently in my case when my mother was driving the car. Like you Andrew - the water pump seal failed. |
