MG MGF Technical - Battery warning light Problem
Hi Any advice out there on a problem I have. For the past two weeks when the car is turned off the fan stays on for approx 5 more minutes. While out driving my 1997 MG MGF last weekend the Battery Warning LED light came on and remained on. I drove the car home. However tried to start the car the next morning and it just clicked over. Tried to recharge the battery, but it wouldn't charge up. Husband jump started it for me and I left it in at my local garage. The mechanic checked the fan belt and the alternator and found no problems. He did however recharge the battery and replace the Amb, Air Temp. sensor. This fixed the fan problem and the battery warning light no longer stayed on while driving. Everything was prefect for approx. 15 miles, and now the battery warning light has come on again!!!. Have to take the car back again to the mechanics. Any suggestions or ideas would really be appreciated.

Possible causes could be a duff battery cell or bad alternator/earth connection. Any competent mechanis should be able to locate and fix the problem. Good luck!

Hi Sam Thank you for your reply regarding the battery warning light problem. Think you are right about the battery. I bought the car a few months ago from a guy who kept a file with all invoices for work etc. carried out on the car, having looked through this there is nothing to say a new battery was ever bought. The battery must be approx 13 years old. I will also speak to the mechanic tomorrow about the alternator / earth connection. Hopefully this will sort the problem out. Thanks for your help, I will keep you updated. Cheers Karen
