MG MGF Technical - anti-theft bolts
Hi all, I was going to unfit winter tires and fit summer ones... Unscrewing anti-theft bolts... bolts head (tool to unscrew them) was broken!!! I'm unable to unfit wheels, now. I'm looking for a spare unscrew-driver tool since 2 weeks and I'm not able to find it. Any suggestion? Thanks in advance to you all. Ciao

Is there a number stamped on the 'key' socket? If so, an MG Rover dealer should be able to order a replacement. Possibly a quicker solution is to drill a hole in each nut and use a bolt/screw extractor, often called an 'Easy Out' and then buy a new set of anti-theft nuts. If you can identify the 'key' number, it is possible you will be able to buy a duplicate secondhand set from eBay etc, which may be cheaper.

Yes, the identifier character (I think it's a letter isn't it Bandit, not a number? Been a while since I looked...) should be visible on the face of the locking wheel nut. If worst comes to worst (in an emergency situation), it may be possible to dift the nut off by using a cold chiesel or similar into one of the grooves of the 'nut and tapping the nut to rotate. I wouldn't recommend it as even in the most careful hands, you'll probably end up damaging the alloy wheel itself. Still - that's better than cutting the wheel off itself...

Don't you have someone around with a welding device. If "broken" means that the the top part became separated from the rest and if you still have both parts, a five minutes welding job including some grinding would fix the thing. Any mechanical workshop could do it. Good luck, Huib

Thank you all, I ordered "key socket" to an MGRover dealer. I'm waiting for it. They said.. next week I'll have it. Thank you.
