MG MGF Technical - Another Window Problem

Hi Chaps, Another problem window - must be the weather. Driver's door glass will not drop - when I press the switch, there is a click from within the door, but no movement - even if I press down on the top of the glass. Passenger glass moves up and down freely. Car has not been used much during the winter, and last time I used it I did notice that the driver's window was sluggish and made a grinding noise when activated. Any ideas what to look for once I have the trim panel off (I think I know how to do this)? I've looked in the archive, but none of the posts about windows seems to match. Thanks, AB
A Bennett

When electric motors make a grinding noise it usually means there is an internal bearing letting go, or one of the gear parts is getting chewed up. I'd suspect a replacement motor may be the required fix, and they usually come with linkage assembly attached. Worth checking for evidence of water ingress, which is a common cause of motor failures - if moisture levels are high the door lock microswitches can suffer too.
