MG MGF Technical - Alarm problem - NEW twist
MGF VVC - New version of the old alarm problem. Not only can the alarm go off when the car is sitting all locked up (I'm in the process of checking lights, door switches and the boot link etc) but now can go off with the engine running and it sets the WIPERS going! Luckily not happened when moving yet so it wont be moving for a while.... Tried plugging in a spare ECU but had no effect. I have noticed the alarm led stays on even when unlocked and glows brighter when the horn is used. Any thoughts appreciated but I reckon It's a specialised job. Thanks in advance.

Similar problem with alarm going off in the middle of the night for no reason. Garage tried everything - no success. Now lock with key (alarm activated) and unlock with fob. No problems now.

Have you looked for the age old problem of a broken wire on the loom at the nearside boot hinge? A broken wire at this point seems to cause all sorts of weird things.

You have a weird ar*e problem for sure! The oddness of symptoms sounds either like water damage or like a faulty earth confusing the ECUs. I would start with a torch up behind the dash looking for any sign of water getting in and for what appear to be a connection block with a lot of black wires going in which should be bolted to the body somewhere. investigate this block, take it off, clean the connections and where it meats the body and refit.
