MG MGF Technical - 1980 mgb engine cuts out

I have a 1980 mgb, which runs very well except at interstate speeds (70 mph) after about 15 miles the engine will begin to cut out and loose power, if you depress the clutch it clears up and will run again for a minute or two before cutting out again. You can do this over and over till you reach an exit ramp, but now I am afraid to take it on the interstate. Does anyone know what might be causing this? Or better yet how to fix it? Thanks, Mike
