MG MGB Technical - Wiper Blade Refills
It seems you can't get good replacement rubber for wiper blades any more. And the complete wiper blades for MGs sold by the usual suspects contain substances very far removed from what is necessary to wipe windshields. The last set I got from Moss Motors would not wipe at all. They appeared to be made of vinyl. I thought the previous set was bad because they were noisy and left streaks on the windshield. I put them back on while I contemplated what to do. I went to the local auto supply to see if I could buy some rubber refills for some other car and cut them to fit, but they don't even sell refills any more. You have to buy a complete blade. I decided to consult the Internet instead. First I went to blade manufacturer web sites. They had nothing for MGs, but they did have generic, cut-to-fit refills. Next stop was Amazon.com, where I found Trico #47-800, 8mm, break-to-fit refills for a decent price. The refills are made of rubber with stainless steel inserts. The inserts are scored so you can bend and break them to fit your blades, but of course they don't score them to fit anything as small as the 12" blades on my '67 GT. So I used sheet metal snips to cut them to size. It took some effort with snips and pliers to make the fastening bits work with the existing blades, but I got one done and installed on the car in time for some rain today. And it works just as a wiper blade should. That is, better than any other blade I've used on the MG. Thought I would pass this along in case anyone else is having difficulty finding good wiper blades.

Glenn, You must have been unlucky. When I was traveling from KY to CA in the BGT, when the rain hit in AZ, I managed to find a good fit at an Autozone after a few tries. Maybe the roadster is that much different? Charley

Charley - The GT blades are much longer than the ones on the roadster. Glen - if your present blades are Trico, you can get a 22" Trico refill from NAPA, remove the rubber, cut it to length and insert it into your present blades. I have been doing that for the past 10 years on our roadster. Cheers - Dave

Thanks for the tip David. Since I have a roadster too, I'll keep that in mind. Charley

Charley - Makes for a relatively inexpensive refill. If I remember correctly, the Trico P/N is 23-220. Cheers - Dave
