MG MGB Technical - Windscreen & 1/4 lights

Hello,

I have an old roadster windscreen but the aluminium has lost a lot of its sheen (there are also a few scratches in it). Does anyone know the best way to clean it up? Is there a company that will do it professionally? I didn't want to pay £600 for a new one!

Secondly, can anyone recommend someone to rechrome my quarterlights? Every chroming company I speak to either wants to charge a fortune or avoid doing them altogether.

Many thanks

There is a Company who regularly advertise in 'Enjoying MG' magazine who fully recondition MGA/B/C windscreens. Their contact details are:

EB Engineering - 01684 577564

Apparently, they also refurbish carburettors.

As far as the re-chroming of your quarterlights are concerned, then you are ideally placed for any number of rechromers in Birmingham. When I was restoring an MGB in 1984, I went to about a half-dozen factories in the Digbeth area and spoke very nicely to the Works Foremen. They usually included my items in a batch of items that they were chroming and it cost me a fraction of the price - cash, of course. I'm sure that they would still be as accommodating today. Look up 'chrome plating and finishers' in Yellow Pages and take your pick.

I have an exchange windscreen and a pair of reconditioned carbs from EB Engineering and very nice they are to. Not yet fitted though.
I also got my 1/4 lights, door handles and various other bits re-chromed at Castle Chrome Plating who are in Dudley (www.castlechrome.co.uk, 01384214429 - speak to Diane) They did a great job considering how pitted some parts were. They were also very reasonable on price coming in at less than £200 for 21 pieces of which I believe there were 6 for each 1/4 light.

I had a screen from Ed Biddel a few years ago and it was absolutely mint. Couldnt recommend him more highly. He's in Little Malvern so its not too far from you and you should be able to pick up.

I have seen his 'screens at Stoneleigh and they really do look like new.
