MG MGB Technical - which floor pans to buy?
Years ago I set out to replace the floor pans in my 77 B roaster, and have basically gotten nowhere in that time. After several attempts to sell it and much doing nothing, my girlfriend has indicated that she would like me to restore it for her. The trouble I have is this, the floor pans I bought on ebay back then are not identical to original. They don't have any of the seat mounting hardware or drain holes, and I think they are thinner than original. I'm not too keen on spending time to add these features and then have it look somewhat cobbled from the bottom. So the question is, which pans can I buy that are exactly as original? Victoria British has them for $99 and the catalog says "British Motor Heritage approved", but I don't know if that means that they are what I want. Moss has an "OEM" for $197 and "repro" for $114, but no indication is given of how accurate the repro's are. Who has the good ones? Thanks!

When I had the floor pans professionally replaced, the fellow used the Heritage made pans. He remarked that they dropped in perfectly and seemed to be an exact replacement for the factory pans on my 68 BGT. I would contact the various suppliers you are considering and ask which, if any, of their parts Heritage made, then choose based on that. The Roadster Factory, mainly a Triumph oriented business, was expanding into MGs and were, when I checked, a supplier of Heritage parts. But, this was many years ago. Les

What you probably have are Steelcraft panels. They didn't exactly match the original panels and didn't have the captive seat nuts. British Motor Heritage bought out Steelcraft a few years ago and that is most likely why you see "approved by British Motor Heritage". The Steelcraft panels will fit, but will require a bit more work. RAY
