MG MGB Technical - what anti roll bar size

As I'm cleaning up my front suspension I'm reviewing the anti roll bar. I have a standard 5/8ths bar. What is considered a better size for normal road use. I plan to install Superflex bushes and want to order up the right size anti roll bar bushes and look out for a bar at Stoneleigh.

3/4" and 7/8" are the two most common upgrade sway bars in use today. RAY

A larger-diameter stabilizer bar will increase the tendency to understeer. The larger the diameter, the greater the understeer. For more information on the subject and how to handle it, look in the Index at the back of the book that I sent to you.

3/4" seems to be the go for a standardish roadster without making it jittery on roughish roads 7/8" if it's a GT

A theory - ish
As you know the standard MGB suffers from initial understeer going into a corner and then as we get harder into the corner oversteer takes over and the further/harder we go around the corner the more the oversteer takes hold till it spins out.
We took a mate's basicaly standard B out to the local circuit to try different bars on it
5/8 11/16 3/4 7/8 15/16 and 1"

Of all the bars the 1" gave the best result-
It completly eliminated the roll in understeer, as it held the body better stopping the rear springs from doing their steering thing and the oversteer further on in the corner went to a very slight understeer right on the limit - adjusted the toe in to 1/16" toe out and it was magic (as far as std. B's go ) Turned in sharp and neutral steering everywhere. It felt really good

On the way home on the road it was terrible, it had more scuttle shake than an old TR and made the trip very uncomfortable
But, for the track only magic---

Road bar size I'd have to agree with Ray 3/4-7/8

With a 7/8" front stabilizer bar, a rear stabilizer bar will be necessary in order to correct for the understeer. The reduced roll moment will increase steering response. That's the combination that I run, along with a Panhard rod, and the ride is acceptable, although it is admittedly a bit stiffer up front on rough roads.
