MG MGB Technical - univers. nut removal(help)

trying to replace the seal have to remove the 1 1/8" nut ihave tried heat , 3 foot pipe on breaker,is it right or left thread,any suggestions apprec. thanks les

That's a bit cryptic, do you mean the gearbox output flange or the axle input flange (the only parts I can think of near a universal joint if that's what you mean by 'universe. nut') nuts? Whichever, they are standard thread.

But then again maybe you mean the hub nuts on the Salisbury axle, these are both right-hand thread but can be very tight as the are done up to 150 ft lb. However they are 1 5/16" rather than 1 5/8", and quite a long way from any UJ.

There again the front hub nuts (even further away from any UJ) are 1 1/8", again standard thread both sides, and should only be between 40 and 70 ft lb.

AFAIK the only left-hand threads are on right-hand wire-wheel spinners, and the right-hand side of the banjo axle on the octagonal bearing-retaining nut.
