MG MGB Technical - Top steering column bush

'72 Roadster - I've just rebuilt the steering column with new top and lower bushes. I have the collapsible column and the top bush is the nylon/plastic variety with ribbing on its outer surface. The top of the column has a small section which is pressed into the tube and I'm guessing that this should 'lock' the bush. Does anyone know how far into the column tube the top bush should be inserted?
