MG MGB Technical - Stripped shock absorber threads

This is a problem I'm having with my MG TF but the shocks and attachement points are the same as the MGA and MGB and I know there are more contributors on this site so I'm also posting here.

I was replacing the shock absorbers on my TF. (In fact I'm converting it to MGB disc brakes and using the MGB front suspension, which is almost a bolt on swap using MGB shocks as well). Everything went great on the left hand side and I was able to torque the bolts to the correct 40 lbs torque. But on the right hand side the bolt threads were damaged when I removed them as though they had been previously cross threaded or damaged by a previous accident. I re-tapped the holes with a BSW 3/8"x20 fine tap (most blots on the TF are BSW) but that seemed to make the holes too sloppy. I used new BSW 3/8"x20 bolts from Moss but one of the bolts stripped out at 30 lbs torque and the other don't seem like they will hold 40 lbs either.

Does anyone out there have experience is solving this type of problem. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Drill out and fit Helicoil thread inserts to restore the threads.
