MG MGB Technical - speedometer non-working
| My speedometer needle was swinging violently and then went to zero. Would this mean there is a break in the speedo drive? Advice please on where the cable enters the engine block as I cannot see an obvious connection and how to replace if necessary or any other check I could take to get it working again. MGBGT '78model. Thanks |

| Si, it doesn't go in to the engine.. It goes in to the back of the gearbox. Easiest way to check it's the cable is to disconnect it from the speedo, feed it to somewhere you or a passenger can see the end of the cable and take the car for a short drive. If the drive pin in the cable is not turning you have a cable or gearbox problem. Assuming it doesn't turn, change the cable before the gearbox ;-) MGmike |
