MG MGB Technical - reupholstering 76 MGB
Does anyone know how I can find a pattern for the seats on my 76 MGB? The uphostering shops in my area don't have the pattern so they are unable to reupholster my seats.

Do you mean an exact pattern so they can reproduce it exactly, i.e. material, stitching etc.? I'd have said an old set would be the only way, but it seems an awful lot of bother to go to rather than buying the proper stuff off the shelf.

When I bought new seat covers, the supplier here asked if I had the old seal covers to copy. Their upholsterer made a very good job. It was not expensive but then it was not reproduced in leather just plain black vinyl. If you have the old seat cover just give them that? Mike

Wow...So many good re-upholstery sets available, I wouldn't think you would want to go to that expense and trouble... Just order a set from Moss, or VB, and bring it to the shop, and let them do it...IMHO. I have done two interiors, and they look great, using those products....High quality , too. Edward

Edward. I have had four MGB's seats recovered. In all cases, the foam and support diaphragms were replaced with new. In two cars, the seat covers were replaced with new covers ordered from Moss Motors. The other two had custom made interiors. The cost for each job was approximately the same--the custom made covers cost about as much as the commercially available ones. Big difference in how they have held up under our rather severe climate. The ones made in the upholstery shop still look almost new, while the seating portion of the Moss seat covers are cracking along the embossed accent lines. In all cases, the lower seat foams had to be cut down to allow one to look through the upper portion of the windscreen while seated on the newly rebuilt seats. Before the foams were lowered, the top bar of the windscreen was at eye level and you had to hunch over when driving to see forwards. If I ever have to do this again, I will probably have the upholstery shop make up a custom suspension, out of nylon strap material, to allow lower seating without having to cut down the foam. Les
