MG MGB Technical - Purpose of switch mounted on gearbox
I have a late black label o/d that has a small (approx. 3/8" dia.) switch mounted in the gearbox housing just forward of the gear shift lever. The switch shows a closed circuit across its two terminals only when the gearshift lever is placed in any gear. It shows an open circuit when the gearshift is placed in neutral. There's no mention of it in the exploded diagram of the gearbox in the Moss catalog. What is the purpose of this switch?

I believe that what you have is the short lived seat belt warning buzzer switch. It was only used for a very short amount of time due to legislation being changed. RAY

Ray, You could be correct. The gearbox came out of a 74 1/2 rubber bumper California B. I've been trying to come up with a useful purpose for this switch. Anyone have any ideas?
