MG MGB Technical - Piston differences
| What is the difference between the pre 71 and post 71 pistons apart from the number of rings. Is there any advantage to using the later type in place of the earlier type (assuming it is possible of course)? |

| early ones have a circlip to hold the pin ie the pin is fixed in the piston and "floats" in the small end. The later ones are a press fit in the rod small end ie fixed in the small end and the piston floats. I think you would need the later conrods and pistons as a set. MGmike |
