MG MGB Technical - Piston alternatives for 2-litre-engine
| I am planning to build a new engine for my MGB. It will be an overbored engine with at least 1930cc. My current engine with the same piston size was built about 20 years ago by Browns and Gammons with Lotus Hepolite pistons with 83.5mm size. I know that these pistons are still available, but does anybody on this bbs have alternatives, that may be better/cheaper/more reliable/whatever?? Years ago Iīve heard from a guy that he used BMW-pistons, but I canīt remember from which modell they were. |

| Joern- Accralite makes a 83.5mm Big Bore piston that doesn't have the dome of the old Lotus design. Great piston!

| Accralite and JE do forged pistons specifically for the MGB and County do a cast piston at 3.297" which gives 1950cc - all these maintain or increase the compression ratio. The Lotus piston has a lower crown height and valve cutouts that require around 70 thou skimmed off the block to maintain compression. I use both the JE and County pistons and both are reliable and value for money for what they are - obviously the forged pistons are more expensive than the cast ones. |

| Chris what is the spec on the County? I assume circlip pin? Flat top? What height? Price> I assume you sell them? Colin |
